Throughout Act I we are being set up for the rest of the play. This act's main purpose is to exemplify personalities, relationships and characteristics of this play's characters.
Act I seems to set place in the early twentieth century, around the turn of the century. Realizing this is not essential at first, but certainly seems to be important to the plot of this play.

die. So, knowing that, she flirts with him, although she tries to sustain herself. She sees opportunity in the doctor because he has professed his love for her. This makes Dr. Rank very vulnerable to Nora's greediness.
To me, Nora seems to be a woman who is only there for herself. Though, I can't say now, I'm sure the next two acts will verify my opinion on Nora Helmer and my prediction of this story.
