Landscape is an important aspect of writing. Through this technique, the author can express symbolism using the character's surroundings. From the external landscape of a character, the internal landscape develops. There is a strong connection between the external and internal landscape of a character. Eudora Welty opens her eyes and see no one on the beach. Everyone had disappeared, as if they had never existed. Internally she wished she was not alone, with life surrounding her. Externally, however, she was alone, and she had recreated a world that no longer existed.
