…had gotten first. She told me that it was probably all the extra laps I had to swim for getting in trouble, and now I believe that is probably true. Hard work really does pay off. I remember holding the trophy in my arms on the long ride home when I fell into an exhausted and contented sleep. The trophy still sits on my dresser and reminds me of a moment I will never forget.
