Her father was an Irishman named Thomas O'Flaherty and her mother was an American-French woman named Eliza Faris O'Flaherty. She had four other brothers and sisters. Kate was not accepted in the St. Louis Fine Art Club. Because of this, Kate Chopin only wrote a few stories, and only a few of those were actually published. Kate's very last story was Polly.
