at all during his terms in office, he still responded to all the major problems with amazing integrity. With the occasional death threat and another loss in battle he still brought the country out of its first and let's hope our last civil war. You can't help but wonder however how the country would have turned out if he didn't die so soon after the Civil War, but I guess no one will ever know.
