…being treated worse than animals and society did nothing to prevent it. Whites owned and traded slaves as if they were some merchandise or pieces of property. Even though there was no one to say that high-powered whites could not own slaves, society as a whole should have come together and said that it was wrong. Today, society recognizes that slavery was wrong and that all human beings should be treated with the same respect.
