The picture of Dorian gray takes place in London around the 1890's. There are three main places that are involved with the setting, Dorian's home, Basil's home/studio and Lord Henry's home. I believe that the setting isn't extremely important towards the plot of the story. It just adds to certain details and opinions that the characters have.

The authour also used hyperboles to describe the setting " The tulip-beds across the road flamed like throbbing rings of fire." (pg 83) This section is describing the place where Jim and Sibyl were sitting. The authour exaggerates the road and describes it as rings of fire. I think that if the setting didn't take place in London it wouldn't make much of a difference because the book doesn't revolve around the setting.
