Thus, when Darcy and Elizabeth are finally engaged it is because they have been able to overcome the obstacles placed before them not only by other people and society, but by their own natures; Darcy overcomes his pride and realizes that social rank will not tell him whom to love and Elizabeth overcomes her initial prejudices against Darcy to see him for who he truly is.
