Ancient Olympics The Olympic ceremonies today are very different from the ceremonies held thousands of years ago. Unlike having multiple locations in different parts of the world, the ancient Olympics were held in Olympia Greece in a dedicated area of its own, to prevent jealousy rising up in other city states as a result of having the ceremonies in one or another city-state. …competitions. And having such a limited population who can even qualify to be in the Olympics, there must have been a lot of people interested. On the 25th Olympiad, they added the Pencratium and chariot races. The Olympic Games continued without trouble until 146 B.C. when the Romans took over and ended the Olympics. Then, in 1896 A.D. they started up again as what we see today and know as the modern Olympics. (c) me
