Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson, president from 1829-1837, was the only two-term president of the era, and by far the most memorable one. He presented a spectacle of rampant growth, diversification and redefinition of culture as dramatic as any time in American history, which some see as the period in which the American character took shape. It lost its friends, including Clay, and quietly lost its standing as a national bank. It was re-chartered as a state bank in Pennsylvania, but only lasted a few years after that. Jackson is not guilty of this charge because he searched for many different solutions to end this problem.
