In this novel, the passage that "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" (Eissen) is clearly supported and definitely demonstrated as a fundamental facet of human nature. It shows the reader that even a man with the best intentions can be corrupted. But it also silently speaks of the hope that one day decency and morality could prevail and be restored.
