to August and Clara Sandburg. His father was a hard workingman and loved his family very much. He wasn't the best father in the whole world though. …in 1953 the city of Chicago made Carl Sandburg Day; and last but not least, he got paid thirty-six hundred dollars to have six of his poems put in PLAYBOY magazine.
After all his years of working, writing, and speaking, Sandburg settled down with his family in North Carolina. He married Lillian Steichen. He also had three daughters: Margaret, Janet, and Helga. He lived out the rest of his life and died a pretty happy guy.
