in the context of my life this quote is commenting on how sometimes we are so unable to accept mysteries. Also, similar to the characters in the novel, who all share the guilt for the death of Santiago Nasar, because none of them actually did anything useful to prevent the murder, the novel tells me that in life I should sometimes take the responsibility to do something instead of thinking that other will do it.
