…If the child continues playing in the rain then he could get sick, or might fall and hurt himself. The last stanza also explains that the father feels bad about hitting his son, so he doesn't turn out to be such an awful person after all. It also shows that it is normal for a three-year-old to cry so it's not as bad of a situation as it was explained in the first two stanzas.
