Comparing Athenian and Spartan Governments

In 500 BCE the government in Greece was just starting to form. The Athenian government was direct democracy. A democracy is when citizens can make decisions about the way that the government is run. The Spartan government was an oligarchy. An oligarchy is a government in which power is in the hands of a select few.
