…Machine brought to himself and to his family. Doug realizes that he must live his own life and not take someone else's path. These people depended on the machines, and when they were gone, they are left only with the truth. This lack of self-reliance can even prevent individual thought. We cannot let "machines" take over our lives. We must experience life for ourselves, ready to accept all the pleasures and pains we may encounter.
