Have you ever thought to yourself how many meanings a word could have? Not even a complex word, but an everyday word. An example of one such word would be cat. Nowadays when someone uses the word cat it is likely that they are just referring to the cuddly feline pet that many people have in their homes. The age of jazz has long since passed and so has the slang usage for the word cat. You could still walk into a jazz club or listen to jazz music to hear it being used as it once. If you were to ask someone now, in 2005 what are some uses of the word cat, the only things they would be able to think of would be the feline creature which many keep as pets.
