Euthanasia

Absolute prohibition against assisted-suicides is a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The prohibition infringes on the right to security of person (which protects the dignity and privacy of individuals with respect to decisions concerning their own body) and the right to equal treatment under the law, "preventing persons physically unable to end their lives without assistance from choosing an option that is available to other members of society." …cant deny. It appears that the courts are subtly implementing their own methods of rationalizing assisted-suicides in the absence of formal laws (as shown in R. v. de la Rocha, and R. v. Morrison.) Perhaps some day in the near future the Canadian government will legalize euthanasia with morals that suit our society. It wont be an easy task due to the ethical and moral issues surrounding the topic in such a multi cultural society.
