Failure of Reconstruction after the Civil War

One of the main reasons why reconstruction failed was because of the failure of the Republican Party to maintain control in the South long enough to instill the egalitarian values in the society. It was left uncompleted because of the apathy of the people, the conspiracies of the Southern Oligarchy and the weakened leadership after Lincoln of the Republican Party, which once championed for freedom for Blacks.
