compassion, and affection for Catherine, how he was conflicted the Lord for taking Catherine away and how he yearned to be with her, yet it was left out. The passages would have shown that Frederic's character is that much more admirable for his devotion to Catherine but they are inexcusably omitted because of Hemingway's desire to not create too much of a sense of understanding for the feelings and emotional experiences of the narrator Frederic.
