character and understand what drove him to kill. The monster lived a life full of pure hatred, he never felt love, and when he did feel happiness he got it taken away from him. The monster does kill many characters within the precision of the story, but in the beginning he does try to love. Shelley knew that death was a popular theme within Romantic literature, and she added much of it into her story.
