During 1863, the Civil War continued to wage on between the two extremely divided factions. In the first two years of the Civil War, neither side had gained any real advantage. But, as it turned out, the Battle of Gettysburg would devastate the Confederate Army; both physically and emotionally. The conclusion was the tragic loss of over 50,000 lives and ultimately the end of the Confederacy. For this reason, Gettysburg is recognized as the turning point in the war that changed American history. It is a battle that will be glorified and remembered forever.
