Today's Gothic society is often perceived as dark, evil and full of social outcasts. Modern day "Goth" icons such as rock star Marilyn Manson have undoubtedly changed the way the whole scene is looked upon. But where as today's "Goths" seem to rely on make up, baggy clothes and body piercing's, the Gothic genre of writing is a lot darker and stranger still. also, I feel, to educate. At the time this book was written, various scientists were experimenting with ways to bring people back to life. I think Mary Shelly was against these tests and wrote this book to try and stop people from "playing god".
In conclusion I feel that although "The Vampire of Kaldenstein" is far more typical of the Gothic style of writing, "Frankenstein" shows more of what the Gothic era was all about
