…in the water. The reef surrounds the lagoon and water is extremely hot. The reef prevents the salt water from entering the lagoon causing it to heat faster. This is all that we know from the first chapter, as the children have not yet ventured out into the island more. They have stayed nearby and have ventured to the mountain but not inside the forest. The island is amazing and seems to be very beautiful.
