…is because he was one of the few beat authors to be published. However, he was a beatnik. He went against his middle class upbringing. He had absolutely no economic worry, he had a social life with intellects that did too many drugs, wrote in unconventional ways and looked east for enlightenment. Jack Kerouac was one of the most well remembered beatniks. Perhaps that's the reason he is considered the father of the Beat Generation.
