The Jacksonite Guardians -- Nelson Loza Andrew Jackson reigned as the seventh president from 1828 to 1836. The time period during the 1820's and 1830's has since been known as the Jacksonian Era. With a forceful and violent personality, Jackson continues to provoke controversy among many historians. They see in him reflections of both the best and worst tendencies for the nation. Jacksonian democracy did allow more people to vote than ever before and made government more directly responsible to the people. Finally, they established a strong executive power, directly responsible to the people and therefore increased their faith in government. Although the equality between Native Americans and whites was not equal, overall, Jacksonians honestly attempted to help common Americans and succeeded at their goal.
