John Adams was born in Braintree, Massachusetts, on October 30, 1735. He was named after his father, John Adams, who was a deacon and a farmer. He was also the cousin of Samuel Adams, a writer and revolutionist. Adams had two younger brothers, Peter and Elihu. He attended Harvard in 1751 and graduated 1755. John and Abigail Adams returned to their home in Massachusetts. Abigail later died in 1818. He lived here until his death at ninety years old on July 4, 1826, which was the 50 year anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the same day Thomas Jefferson died. John Adams was known for his contributions to America as a founding father and as a patriot to his country.
