Born as Michael-Guillme Jean De Crevecoeur, on January 31st 1735 in Caen Normandy, St John De Crevecoeur was the son of nobility of Normandy. His mother was a prosperous banker with a very good education for a woman of the 1700s. In 1769 Crevecoeur began writing essays and sketches of America. The first sketches completed were based on his travels to Bermuda, Nantucket, Martha's vinyard, Jamaica and the colonies of Virginia and South Carolina. His experiences between 1774 and 1776 were material for "The American Farmer" this piece was intended to give the British reading public with reliable accounts of the North American colonies, and the life of the Americans through their lives. There were 12 letters in all.
