The first sketches completed were based on his travels to Bermuda, Nantucket, Martha's vinyard, Jamaica and the colonies of Virginia and South Carolina. His experiences between 1774 and 1776 were material for "The American Farmer" this piece was intended to give the British reading public with reliable accounts of the North American colonies, and the life of the Americans through their lives.
