Prelude to the American Revolution

A number of events led to the breakout of the American Revolutionary War. Up until the outbreak of armed hostilities in 1775, most American colonists still wanted reconciliation with England. They had hoped that their actions up to that point would convince the mother country to moderate her oppressive policies toward the American colonies. …should have realized that the British were providing them with protection. The Englishmen paid much higher taxes than they did. These taxes were necessary to get the mother country out of its incredible debt. This war was quite far from being inevitable. England didn't go about regaining control over the colonies well. The colonists were not at all understanding of the situation of debt that Britain was left in after the French and Indian War.
