He alerts us that genocide is still present in our world and can happen anywhere on any scale, as we have seen not only in Rwanda but also in Kosovo. When all is said and done it is clear that Gourevitch wants to be hopeful that Rwanda can someday shun its discrimination and become one nation, even though he sees little reason for it.
