In 1996 Baz Luhrmann took the famous Shakespeare play 'Romeo and Juliet' and transformed it into a successful modern day adaptation. The film was an enormous hit and Luhrmann, as a director, became recognised and respected. The opening series draws the viewer into the story of Romeo and Juliet and shows the hatred shared between the two families. It will intrigue the viewer, as they will want to know how two individuals from such rivalling families could meet and fall so passionately in love. The opening sequence has frequent changes of shot, which keeps the viewer gripped and eager to keep watching.
