Let me begin by quoting the most read book ever, the Bible. "Jesus does equate committing adultery with having lust in your heart (Matthew 5:27-28) and committing murder with having hatred in your heart (Matthew 5:21-22)." …that Chillingworth's, it changed herself for the better compared to Chillingworth's sin changing him for the worse, and it effected the people around her in a more positive way than Chillingworth's sin did. Hester says it best herself when she says, "He Betrayed me! He has done me worse wrong than I did him (page 172)." Doing more wrong directly translates into committing a worse sin. Chillingworth's sin was obviously worse than the sin of Hester.
