In the American culture a common way of retaliation is violence. A common form of violence is fighting. Sometimes fights escalate into bigger things and weapons are used. The novel A Chronicle of a Death Foretold and the documentary Bowling for Columbine had similar conflicts and consequences. Both of the stories result in death, and either one of these two deaths have valid reasons or explanations.

In Columbine almost every resident owned a gun and they were comfortable with that however that still does not make it right for teenagers to have access to guns, or in the case of Chronicle of a Death Foretold, kill the person their sister slept with.
