their life, and fear the day of their execution. But Meursault does none of these. He shows no sadness but a mutated form of quasi-happiness. He welcomes his death and he even wants people to attend his death. This is a peculiar view to take but it does illuminate a sort of hope. A hope that even in a place where sadness and gloom can over take a man, there is still happiness.
