The Federalist Papers Madison stated many valid points in the Federalist Paper No. 10. Madison also knew human nature well and he knew that there would be some politicans that would come to power by evil or unmoral means and then once in power they would betray the people who elected him. The question Madison posed was how small or how big should a Republic be so the public's best interest always comes first and that in case politicians are corrupt they don't have too much power.
