The Irish Easter Rising of 1916

The Easter Rising was daringly planned by the Military Council of the Irish Republican Brotherhood to win support across Ireland for the republican cause. Although the Easter Rising was a military and political failure, the rebels did eventually gain more support from the Irish Population. Sinn Fein would accept nothing less than a republic of Ireland, leading to the Anglo-Irish war fought between the Irish Republican Army and British government forces. The Easter Rising was a significant event in Irish history, resulting in public support for republicanism and, eventually, limited independence.
