The evil of humanity is embodied in Jack and it spreads like a disease through the other boys. Eventually, Piggy becomes the victim of Jack and his followers. This illustrates Golding's theme. As the morals of the boys fall apart the civilized order fades away. Piggy's death is the final plunge into chaos.
