The effect of Vitamin D supplementation on patients with
secondary hyperparathyroidism and hemodialysis, helps the
parathyroid hormone return to its normal set point.
The effect of intravenous 1, 25(OH)2D therapy has been
shown to increase the parathyroid hormone ( PTH ) secretion
(1). The subjects for this experiment were fourteen normal
people and 13 patients with undergoing hemodialysis. The
hemodialysis patients were then broken down into 6 patients
with elevated PTH (EBI) at greater than 10 pmol/L and seven
patients

The five study showed that the importance of
supplementing an active source of vitamin D whether its
1,25(OH)2D, 25(OH),or falecalcitriol helps decrease the
serum parathyroid hormones in individuals suffering from
secondary hyperparathyroidism and undergoing hemodialysis.
The supplementation can be by mouth or intravenously. More
