The iconoclasm debate wasn't very serious at first. However it eventually lead to many
problems. It lead to many riots and separated grouops of people and effected the churches.
The icons were soppossed to be used to help people to worship God and remind them of God.
However some people used it for something other than it was intended to be used.

many reasons for icons to not be used because icons would be used for
other things that were against Christianity. There were also many deaths in the iconoclasm
controversy because of wars between the east and west that were for the icons and against it.
The iconoclasm debate lasted until one of the emperors in Byzantine let icons once again be
used for the original purpose it was made for, to help someone worship God.
