Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743in Shadwell, Virginia. His parents
were Peter and Jane Jefferson. When Thomas was only fourteen, his father died.
Once his father died he started to take classes with Rev. James Maury. When he
turned seventeen, he went to the College of William and Mary, but he left after two
years.
In 1760 he was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses. In1769, the town of
