Marines, but it sets itself apart from other conflicts in which Marine took part because it also served as a proving ground, and consequently a testament, to Marin Corp amphibious doctrine. Most the doctrine from the 1930's was applied successfully to the war in the pacific, seeing only minor, localized changes in technology and technique. These changes resulted in more efficient and effective naval gunfire, better communications, more dedicated close air support, and stronger communications.
