United NationsThe United Nations is an organization that is comprised by independent countries who work for the world to encourage peace. There are 185 member countries in the United Nations today. The United Nations tries to keep peace throughout the world, develop friendly relations among other nations, and help improve living conditions and help nations in need of help. There is six languages spoken in the U.N. These languages are Chinese, French, Arabic, Russian, English, …

…neutral and are lightly armed. They have vehicles with automatic guns. The Security Council grants authority for peacekeeping missions. The UN does not have its own army, so the Security Council borrows from the armies of member countries. The Security Council also chooses a commander, and the forces operate under U.N. command. The forces operate only if there is conflict between countries. Peacekeeping forces are funded by special fees paid by U.N. members.
