What explanations do Christians offer for the origin of sin?

Over the years Christians have interpreted and reinterpreted the Bible in many different ways and these interpretations have led to several explanations for the origin of sin. …an agnostic my opinion on sin sways toward the Pelagian theory and is simply this: people are born with free will. Whether or not a person sins is entirely up to them, although that choice may be influenced by various outside factors - the way a person has been brought up for example. Nonetheless sin comes from within each individual's mind and so the individual is to blame and not God, or Adam and Eve.
