Wilfred Owen and the Horror and Futility of War

Wilfred Owen was born into a middle class English family in eighteen ninety-three. He was the eldest child in the family of four children, he was the son of a railway official named Tom Owen. He aspired to win two scholarships but was unsuccessful both times so he consequently moved to France to teach English. …his untimely death was a loss not only because of his poetic skill but also because of his compassion and humanity. Reading through his poems has given me a personally valuable insight into the life of my grandfather who was also an officer that suffered injury and spent time in a hospital. I have also gained an insight into the lives of many of the other people involved in many different aspects of the war.
