They chose not to bask in this new found glory, but in true southern fashion, used it make the lives of others better. Black women now moved on to live relatively happy lives. Many made official long time marriages, some moved on to work, and others received the education they had long missed. The Civil War brought southern women closer to the fore front, and allowed the world to appreciate them just a little more.
