Personification- "the sun mounting the horizon clouds" describes how the sun rose in the day and seemed to rest upon the clouds. Repetition- Wang Lung kept referring back to his land, and how much he loved it. Buck probably used this technique to show that Wang Lung care for the land as if it were his own child.
