…unions. Truman retired to Independence Missouri at the end of his second term. He was 67. He always stayed interested in politics and was a firm democratic supporter. He opened the Harry S. Truman library, wrote a two volume set of memoirs, and was a recipient for the freedom award. He passed away in 1972 and was buried on the grounds of the library built in his name.
