…In a way his face sort of resembles leather, and like leather his face has many tiny wrinkles. Adams was a master of the black and white print and it proved very difficult to duplicate such shading. Adams method of exposure and development divided the gradations of light in a scene into ten zones from black to white; this allowed him to visualize the different levels of gray in the final photograph with great accuracy.
