There is a place up in Monte Cristo canyon that I like to call "the ponds". Off of a dirt road there is a narrow canyon just small enough to fit a small stream and a series of ponds. I go to "the ponds" to fish, but most of the time it is really to just get away. The sounds heard are unique to anywhere I have ever been. The distant sounds of Robins chirping …

…and has the hint of an upcoming summer. Due to the steep grade of the Rocky canyon walls the hours of direct sunlight are limited. The Canyon wall are constantly blanketed in mysterious shadows. Often times I sneak away to "the ponds" by myself, and my friends and family think it is kind of strange.
